Fireworks Safety

Around the 4th of July is the time when fireworks displays and sales run high, especially in Worcester County. You should be aware of the regulations on fireworks that exist to be sure you stay out of trouble and safe this holiday season.

There are only 4 types of legal fireworks in Worcester County:

  1. Ground Based Sparkling Devices (GBSD) that are non-aerial and non-explosive.
(As approved by the MD State Fire Marshal) - Complete list of approved GBSD

  2. Hand held sparklers that do not contain chlorates or perchlorates.

  3. Paper wrapped snappers containing less than three hundredths grains of explosive composition also known as "Bang Snaps".

  4. Ash producing pellets known as "Snakes" which do not contain mercury and are not regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

GBSD are legal in Worcester County but ILLEGAL for use within the "City Limits of the Town of Ocean City, Maryland".
