The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an outside fire at 1510 Market Street, Pocomoke, Maryland in Worcester County. The May 11, 2010 fire was reported at approximately 12:30 pm advising boxes located behind Eastern Shore Poultry were on fire. First arriving firefighters from the Pocomoke Volunteer Fire Company reported fire showing from boxes stored behind Eastern Shore Poultry. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. The Pocomoke Volunteer Fire Company remained on the scene for approximately one hour. The boxes involved in the fire contained “Kuul Pads” which are utilized in the poultry industry. The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined at this time and the investigation is continuing. May 7, 2010 - Snow Hill Woman Left Homeless After Fire |

A Snow Hill woman is homeless after a Friday evening fire. The Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company found a fire in a utility room extending into the kitchen upon arrival. The home was owned and occupied by Belinda Shockley and her dog. Both were able to escape safely and no injuries were reported. Snow Hill firefighters were on the scene for 1 1/2 hours. The cause of the fire is undetermined. The American Red Cross was contacted and is providing temporary assistance to the displaced occupant. The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating an April 26, 2010 residential house fire at 10 Wharf Court, Ocean Pines, Maryland in Worcester County. The 12:56 fire was ruled intentionally set or ARSON. A single person, Roslyn Smith, was occupying the dwelling at the time of the fire. Roslyn Smith was treated at the scene by Ocean Pines EMS for burn injuries and respiratory complications. Roslyn Smith was transported to PRMC and then to Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore where she is currently listed in critical condition. It was determined through the course of the investigation that Roslyn Smith was the person responsible for the intentional setting of the fire at 10 Wharf Court, Ocean Pines, Maryland. April 26, 2010 - ARSON Fire in Ocean Pines |

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a residential structure which occurred on April 26, 2010. First responding firefighters from the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Company reported heavy smoke showing from a two story dwelling. The 1 pm fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters from Ocean Pines, Showell, Berlin, Bishopville, and Ocean City Volunteer Fire Companies. The fire was located at 10 Wharf Court, Ocean Pines, Maryland 21811 in Worcester County. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately two hours. One subject was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and was later transferred to Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore for injuries suffered from the fire. The dwelling is owned by Kenneth and Roslyn Smith. The fire originated in a first floor bedroom. The fire was discovered to have been intentionally set or ARSON. April 25, 2010 - Accidental Chicken House Fire in Berlin |

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a reported commercial structure fire in a chicken house which occurred on April 25, 2010. First responding firefighters from the Berlin Volunteer Fire Company reported heavy fire showing from side “A” of the chicken house. The 4 pm fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters from the Berlin, Newark, Showell, and Powellville Volunteer Fire Companies. The fire was located at 7919 East Shire Drive, Berlin, Maryland 21811 in Worcester County. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately two and a half hours and no injuries were reported. The chicken house is owned by Ernest Cox. Cox tends chickens for Perdue Farms. The chicken house was occupied by approximately 22,000 four week old chickens at the time of the fire. The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a reported smoke investigation at a residential structure which occurred on April 15, 2010. First responding firefighters from the Ocean City Fire Company reported fire showing from a mulch bed adjacent to a dwelling with extension to the siding of a two-story residential dwelling. The 3 pm fire was quickly extinguished. The fire was located at 12433 West Torquay Road, Ocean City, Maryland 21842 in Worcester County. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately one hour and no injuries were reported. The dwelling is owned by Dennis & Connie Kominos and no one was home when the fire was discovered. The fire originated in the front mulch bed. The fire is listed as undetermined and the investigation is continuing. April 17, 2010 - Arrest Made In Pocomoke Residential Arson |

The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office has investigated a fire at 602 Mimosa Lane in Pocomoke City, Maryland. The residence was a single family home. The occupant arrived home in the evening of April 17, 2010 to find the fire burning. The fire was determined to be intentionally set. The investigation led to the arrest of 46 year old James Edward Allen of Pocomoke City, Maryland. James Allen set a porch door mat on fire causing damage to the only doorway into and out of the house. Mr. Allen was charged with 1st and 2nd Degree Arson and Malicious Burning of property damage less than $1,000. Mr. Allen was held in the Worcester County Jail on $25,000 Bond. The April 11, 2010 fire was reported at approximately 11:30 pm by a neighbor. First arriving firefighters from the Ocean City Fire Company reported heavy fire showing from the rear of a single story dwelling. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. The Ocean City Fire Company was assisted by the Berlin Volunteer Fire Company. The structure involved in the fire is owned by Janet Boyer but was not occupied at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined at this time and the investigation is continuing.
