August 15, 2010 - Berlin House Fire

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a residential structure fire on August 15, 2010.  The fire was reported at approximately 9 pm by occupants of the dwelling involved in the fire.  First arriving fire units reported fire showing from the second floor of a two-story residential dwelling.  Firefighters from the Berlin Volunteer Fire Company made an aggressive interior attack and quickly controlled the fire.  The Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Company also responded and assisted with the fire.  Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 2 hours.  The dwelling was occupied at the time the fire was discovered.  All occupants were able to escape and no injuries were reported.  The Red Cross was on the scene and assisting the occupants.  The dwelling involved in the fire is owned by Matthew Kee Jr. and is located at 206 Railroad Ave Extended, Berlin, Maryland in Worcester County.  The fire ignited near a window air conditioner unit.  The fire is listed as accidental.   Anyone with additional questions or comments should contact Chief Deputy Matt Owens at 410-632-5666 ext. 2 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. August 13 - 15, 2010 - Worcester County Fair

The Fire Marshal's Office will be out at the Worcester County Fair at Byrd Park in Snow Hill this weekend.  The Fire Marshal's Office and the Worcester County Special Hazards Team has the spill trailer on display.  In previous years, Hazmat 1, the County's hazmat response truck and decon trailer have been displayed.  If you stop by the fair, come see us too.  We have Fire Prevention Materials and would like to explain the FMO's roles in the County's Hazmat mitigation.
 
August 10, 2010 - Hazmat Response at Assateague State Park

The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office was alerted to respond with the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department on a reported chlorine leak at the Assateague State Park at 9:03 AM on Tuesday, August 10, 2010.  The Fire Marshal's Office activated the Special Hazards Response Team Hazmat 1 to assist with the mitigation of the incident.  It was determined a 150 pound chlorine cylinder used for water treatment was leaking from the value.  A leak kit from the County's Hazmat 1 Truck was used to stop the leak.  No injuries were reported.
 
August 9, 2010 - Accidental House Fire in Snow Hill

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a residential structure fire on August 9, 2010.  The fire was dispatched at approximately 8 am.  Firefighters from the Snow Hill and Girdletree Volunteer Fire Companies responded to the incident.  First arriving fire units reported smoke showing from the garage of a 1 ½ story residential dwelling.  The fire was located at 4108 Red House Road, Snow Hill, Maryland in Worcester County.  Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately one hour assisting with smoke removal.  The dwelling is owned by Brooks and Carrie Phillips.  The fire originated in the garage and was caused by a malfunctioning battery charger.  The fire is listed as accidental.   Anyone with additional questions or comments should contact Chief Deputy Matt Owens at 410-632-5666 ext. 2 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. August 8, 2010 - Pocomoke Family of 7, Displaced by House Fire

The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fire in Pocomoke City which displaced a family of seven (7).  The fire was reported at 2PM at 6 Forth Street.  Arriving firefighters found fire venting out of a bedroom window in the single story single family home.  The fire was quickly extinguished.  The house was occupied at the time of the fire and all occupants escaped with no injuries.  The tenant of the house is Maria Marshall and 5 of her 6 children ages, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 16 were home at the time of the fire.  The house is owned by Dean Guy.  The Red Cross has placed the family in a local motel.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  Anyone with questions or information is asked to call Deputy Fire Marshal Rodney Sharpley, Sr. at 410.632.5666 ext. 3 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. August 7, 2010 - Accidental Kitchen Fire in Ocean Pines

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a residential structure fire on August 7, 2010.  The fire was dispatched at approximately 4 am.  Firefighters from the Ocean Pines and Showell Volunteer Fire Companies responded to the incident.  First arriving fire units reported the fire had been extinguished by the occupant prior to their arrival.  The fire was located at 25 Moonraker Road, Ocean Pines, Maryland in Worcester County.  Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately one hour assisting with smoke removal.  One subject was transported to Atlantic General Hospital for burn injuries.  The subject was treated and released.  The dwelling is owned by Anna K. August 3, 2010 - Woods/Brush Fire in Berlin

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a woods and brush fire located on Newark Fire Road, Berlin, Maryland in Worcester County.  The August 3, 2010 fire was dispatched at approximately 1:09 pm.  First arriving fire units reported fire showing from a wooded area near the edge of the roadway.  The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters from the Berlin Volunteer Fire Company.  Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately one hour conducting overhaul operations.  The fire is listed as undetermined and the investigation is continuing.  No injuries were reported. August 6, 2010 - Accidental Girdletree House Fire

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a residential structure fire on August 6, 2010.  The fire was dispatched at approximately 7 am.  Firefighters from the Girdletree, Stockton, Snow Hill, Greenbackville, and Pocomoke Volunteer Fire Companies responded to the incident.  First arriving fire units reported fire showing from the roof area.  The fire was located at 6618 Taylor Landing Road, Girdletree, Maryland in Worcester County.  Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately two hours and no injuries were reported.  The dwelling is owned by Stephen and Annette Parker.  The house was not occupied when the fire was discovered.  The fire was caused by a lightning strike and is listed as accidental.   Anyone with additional questions or comments should contact Chief Deputy Matt Owens at 410-632-5666 ext. 2 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. July 30, 2010 - Ocean Pines Vehicle Fire

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a vehicle fire at 19 Admiral Drive, Ocean Pines, Maryland in Worcester County.  The July 30, 2010 fire was dispatched at approximately 1:08 am.  First arriving fire units reported nothing showing.  Fire units advised the fire had been extinguished by Ocean Pines PD prior to their arrival.  Firefighters from the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Company conducted overhaul operations and remained on the scene for approximately one hour.  The fire originated in the rear bed of a 2005 Chevy truck.  The fire is listed as undetermined and the investigation is continuing.  No injuries were reported.
