The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office has investigated a dwelling fire located at 619 Williams Street, Berlin, Maryland. The July 26, 2009 fire occurred at approximately 8:02 pm. The Berlin Volunteer Fire Company responded and quickly extinguished the fire. The Berlin Fire Company was assisted by the Showell and Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Companies. The dwelling was occupied at the time of the fire. All occupants escaped and no injuries were reported. First arriving fire units reported light smoke extending from the dwelling.
Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately two hours. The dwelling involved in the fire is owned by Alan R. Callaway. The fire was caused by a lightning strike. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Chief Deputy Matt Owens at 410-632-5666 ext. 2 or
