WHITE HORSE PARK CLUBHOUSE CATCHES FIRE

The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated a commercial building fire at the White Horse Park Community Association late Thursday evening.

The Ocean Pines and Showell Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to the fire just before midnight. First arriving units reported heavy fire burning through the roof of the White Horse Park clubhouse building. The clubhouse building is used for community events and has shower and bathroom facilities for the adjacent swimming pool.

An aggressive fire attack was made and the fire was quickly extinguished by over thirty firefighters that responded to the scene. The Berlin Volunteer Fire Company also assisted with a water supply due to the park not having fire hydrants installed. Personnel remained on the scene for approximately two hours performing overhaul operations.

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire to be accidental. The fire is believed to have been started from a malfunctioning attic area exhaust fan.
