WEST OCEAN CITY HOUSE FIRE RULED ACCIDENTAL

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a residential house fire located at 12528 Ocean Reef Drive in West Ocean City yesterday evening. The home is owned by Michael and Gina Matha. The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire at approximately 4:55 PM. Second Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Larmore arrived in less than three minutes from dispatch and reported heavy fire showing from an attached two car garage of a 2 ½ story wood frame home. Approximately 50 firefighters responded and performed an aggressive attack to knock the fire down quickly. The fire was contained to the garage area with moderate smoke damage to the remainder of the home. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately three hours performing overhaul operations. The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office determined the fire to be accidental and is believed to have been caused by an electrical system malfunction in the garage. No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
