HOUSE FIRE IN STOCKTON LEAVES FAMILY HOMELESS

“The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a residential structure fire

which completely destroyed a Stockton home this morning. The home located at

2420 Ward Road in Stockton, was owned and occupied by Herman and Lacey

Mitchell. Stockton and Girdletree Volunteer Fire Companies were alerted to the 3:30

AM fire where they arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the first floor.

Additional alarms were sounded bringing Greenbackville, Pocomoke City and Snow Hill

fire companies to the scene for extra manpower and equipment. Freezing

temperatures and windy weather conditions hindered extinguishment efforts. It took

over fifty firefighters almost four hours to contain the fire. A family pet unfortunately

perished and one firefighter sustained injuries from the fire and is being treated at

Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Damages to the 11 month old home

and its contents are estimated at $330,000. The fire is listed as accidental.”
