FIRE IN SNOW HILL WOOD WORKING SHOP

"The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated a commercial building fire located at 5513 Hatchery Lane in Snow Hill yesterday afternoon. The building was being used as a wood working shop. The fire was reported at 2:21 PM. First arriving units reported fire through the roof on the back side of the building.

Fire Chief Ray Wooten of the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company was the incident commander and immediately requested assistance from over fifty firefighters from six volunteer fire companies: Snow Hill, Newark, Girdletree, Stockton, Pocomoke City and Powellville.

Elevated temperatures and windy conditions hampered suppression efforts. Rehabilitation areas were established for overheated firefighters. It took crews approximately four hours to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is listed as accidental and was believed to be started from malfunctioning electrical services in the building. The building is owned by Doug Alan Larger who had recently purchased the property and was in the process of renovating it into storage rental units. The property was not insured.
