County Hazmat Team Responds To District & Circuit Courts

"The Worcester County Special Hazardous Response Team responded twice this week for packages received at both the Worcester County District and Worcester County Circuit Courts.

The first response was on Monday, March 21, 2005 at 10:30AM for a report of a package containing a "white powder" substance at the Worcester County District Court in Snow Hill.  Hazmat Technicians recovered and preliminarily tested the substance.  After initial testing was negative, the substance was package and turned over to the Sheriff's Office.  The package was sent to the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for further testing.  On Thursday, March 24, 2005, the Maryland DHMH released all testing for Bio-hazards were negative.  The County's Special Hazards Response Team was assisted on the scene by the Worcester County Sheriff's Office, the County Bureau of Investigations, the Snow Hill Police Department, the Worcester County Department of Emergency Services and the Worcester County Health Department.

On Friday, March 25, 2005, at 10:30 AM a suspicious package was received at the Worcester County Circuit Court.  Hazmat Technicians responded and investigated the package.  The incident was unfounded.  The Special Hazards Response Team was assisted by the Worcester County Sheriff's Office."
