FIRE MARSHAL’S OFFICE ASSISTS WITH WOODS FIRE

“The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office assisted the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company with a woods fire on Forest Lane Road in Snow Hill. The fire which was reported shortly after 1:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon consumed a large area quickly and required numerous resources. Deputy Fire Marshal Rodney Sharpley, Sr. was requested to respond to the scene to assist with operations. WBOC TV Channel 16 offered the use of their helicopter to provide an aerial view of the situation. Upon direction from Snow Hill Fire Chief John Coleman, Deputy Sharpley was requested to provide an update from the air on the situation. It took over 150 firefighters from over a half dozen area fire departments and several state forestry division units with heavy machinery to control the fire. Dry grounds and windy weather conditions were contributed in the quick spread of the fire.
