FIRE MARSHAL’S OFFICE URGES CAUTION WHEN BURNING OUTDOORS
“A recent slew of outdoor woods and brush fires throughout our area over the last few weeks has increased the level of concern when burning outdoors. The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office urges anyone involved in outdoor burning to use extreme caution to prevent outdoor fires from spreading. Current weather conditions have been blamed for the quick spread of these recent fires. While no official burning ban has been issued, if it is not necessary to burn it is recommended you wait until weather conditions improve. If you do plan to burn it is suggested you follow these recommendations:
Burn in an area that is
away from combustibles such as dry grass, woods, structures and the
like.
Have a way to extinguish
the fire if it starts to get out of control.
Burn in small amounts
instead of one big pile.
Monitor weather
conditions. Don’t burn during windy days that could spread the fire
faster.
Never leave a fire unattended. Stay with the fire until it is completely extinguished.
For further information, the
Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office can be reached by calling
