FIVE POCOMOKE
CITY FAMILIES
HOMLESS AFTER FIRE DESTORYS APARTMENT BUILDING
“The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s
Office has investigated a structure fire located at 501 Market St. in
Pocomoke City, Maryland.
The fire was located in a renovated house which
was converted into five apartments.
The fire was reported at 2:48 PM on Saturday
afternoon August 25, 2007 and did extensive damage to the structure.
A total of 12 residents occupied the five
apartments.
One resident was treated for smoke inhalation,
transported to
McCready
Hospital
and later released.
Firefighters from the Pocomoke Volunteer Fire
Company, Girdletree, Stockton, Greenbackville (Accomack), and New
Church
(Accomack) responded and remained on the scene for four hours.
The fire originated in a first floor apartment
bedroom.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Red Cross is currently assisting all 5
families.
The structure is owned by Steven Wais.”
