FIRE RIPS THROUGH SNOW HILL GARAGE APARTMENT

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office has completed its investigation on the cause of a fire which damaged a two story garage apartment in Snow Hill.

The Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a residential structure fire at 239 South Washington Street just after 10:00 am Sunday morning. Upon arrival firefighters observed heavy fire and smoke coming from a two-story garage and apartment. Firefighters performed an interior attack and contained the fire to the second story of the structure. One occupant received burn injuries while attempting to extinguish the fire.

An origin and cause fire investigation determined an improperly placed electric space heater in the vicinity of combustible materials ignited the fire. The fire is considered accidental. Damages are estimated at $45,000.
