VACANT HOUSE FIRE IN WEST OCEAN CITY
The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire located near the intersection of Keyser Point Road and Center Drive in Ocean City, Maryland. The dwelling involved in the fire had not been occupied for several years. Access to the dwelling by the fire department was difficult because of its distance from the roadway and narrow driveway with low and years of overgrown brush.
First arriving units from the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company reported a 2.5 story dwelling well involved with fire spreading into the nearby woods. The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company was assisted by Ocean Pines, Berlin, Showell, Bishopville and numerous fire companies from Sussex County, Delaware. The fire was quickly brought under control. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries while fighting the fire. An excavator was utilized to lower the structure due to instability.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office.
