HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENT IN POCOMOKE

The Worcester County Special Hazards Response Team was alerted to assist the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Department with a transportation accident with fuel spill into a waterway.

The Special Hazards Response team assisted with offloading approximately 160 gallons of petroleum from a truck involved in the accident. An additional 160 gallons of petroleum were believed to have ruptured from the accident, sending some of the petroleum into a nearby waterway. The Special Hazards Team deployed absorbent booms into the waterway to prevent the spill from traveling further down stream. A private cleanup company from Salisbury, Maryland was contracted to completely cleanup the scene.

Anyone with questions or comments should contact Deputy Fire Marshal Robert Korb, Jr. at 410.632.5666 Ext. 4 or rkorb@wcfmo.org
