"Afternoon Fire Destroys A Pocomoke
Animal Clinic, Killing One Dog"
"The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a fire located at 1402 Market Street in Pocomoke City, Maryland. This was the location of Dr. Hafez’s Worcester Animal Clinic. The building was totally gutted by the fire. Firefighter’s from Pocomoke, Stockton and Snow Hill responded to the 2:08 P.M. fire. The clinic was closed at the time of the fire and only housed one animal. A dog was found deceased. The fire is listed as accidental, blamed on the use of an extension cord powering a portable electric heater. The Fire Marshal would like to remind the public that the use of extension cords with portable electric heaters can lead to fires. Never leave a portable heat source, regardless of type, electric, kerosene or gas, unattended. Extension cords should never be placed under a rug or carpet.
