Downtown Berlin Business Complex Suffers Major Fire Damage
The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a fire which caused severe fire and smoke damage to a 2 story building in downtown Berlin that housed 12 businesses. The fire occurred at the Midtown Professional Building located at 29 Broad Street in Berlin, Maryland in Worcester County. Firefighters from Berlin, Ocean City, Ocean Pines, and Showell Volunteer Fire Companies responded to the 4:45 a.m. fire and remained on the scene for approximately five hours. The fire was quickly brought under control. Several of the tenant spaces suffered heavy fire and smoke damage. The fire damage is estimated to exceed $700,000.00. No injuries were reported and the building was not occupied at the time of the fire. The fire is listed as accidental, caused by a malfunctioning bakery oven.
