Snow Hill House Fire Determined Accidental
The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office has completed its investigation of an early morning house fire located at 115 Purnell Street in Snow Hill, Maryland. Fire Marshal’s Office Deputies responded to the 1:59 AM fire at the request of the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company to determine how it originated.
Due to the age of the 1910 structure and fire fighting problems associated with older type building construction, the fire was brought under control in just over 2 ½ hours. Several safety concerns that stemmed from lack of lighting inside the structure, kept investigators outside until day break.
The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire originated between the first and second floors on the south side of the structure. The fire is listed as accidental and was caused by faulty electrical wiring that ignited wood flooring in a bedroom and traveled throughout the “balloon” constructed home.
