Snow Hill Family Homeless After Early Morning Fire

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire which gutted a Snow Hill home early this morning. According to Fire Marshal Jeffrey McMahon, the Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched at 01:59 AM to a reported house fire at 115 Purnell Street. First arriving units reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the two story single family home. Three people were home at the time of the fire. Two escaped by crawling out a second story window onto a porch and then jumped to the ground.

The Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company remained on the scene for several hours. The house is owned by Harry Hammond and was occupied by Robert Coston, Brenda Ames and their 21 year old daughter. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
