Residents Barely Escape An Early Morning Snow Hill House Fire
The Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office investigated a fire in a two story single family dwelling which was located at 111 Purnell Street in Snow Hill, Maryland.
A Tyson's Foods shuttle bus passing by saw flames coming from the second floor exterior of the dwelling at approximately 2:06 am. The driver of the vehicle quickly alerted the three sleeping occupants in the house of the fire and everyone escaped safely.
The Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded and quickly extinguished the fire. It took approximately 40 firefighters to contain the fire to a second floor storage area above the kitchen. Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 2 hours. Total damages to the dwelling are estimated at $10,000.00.
The dwelling involved in the fire is owned by Charles and Sharon Newman, Sr. The fire is listed as accidental caused by malfunctioning electrical wiring.
